After receiving love for National Award win for Kantara, actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty recently is in news for criticizing Bollywood. A few statements made by the star during an interview has found its way on social media and needless to say, it has been going viral. In this interaction, Rishab is seen taking a jibe at Bollywood films wherein he has accused them of portraying India in a bad light during international festivals.
In an interview with MetroSaga, Rishab Shetty was seen expressing his pride over Kannada cinema and its beauty. Meanwhile, in the same interaction, he also shared his displeasure over how his country is portrayed in Bollywood films. He said, “Indian films, especially Bollywood, show India in a bad light. These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet. My nation, my state, my language—my pride. Why not take it on a positive note globally, and that’s what I try to do.”
In an earlier interview with PTI, Rishab discussed how Kannada films do not get enough exposure in film festivals etc. “We premiere at festivals and win awards, but we do not get any platform for that. OTT platforms do not buy Kannada content, so we are forced to put it on YouTube channels. I am done with that. We don’t get any recovery from such films,” he added.

Rishab Shetty, who is basking on the success Kantara has tasted, gained fame across the country as well as internationally, for his fantasy action-adventure drama. The film is rooted in Indian, to be more specific, in Kannada culture and is based on folklore and beliefs. This supernatural drama will now be taken forward as a franchise after the stupendous box office records of its prequel. With Rishab taking on the lead role yet again, the sequel titled Kantara Chapter 1: The Legend, has already gone on floor in Hyderabad and is expected to take audiences deeper into the world created by its predecessor. The pan-India entertainer is expected to release next year in multiple languages.
